PHYS 530 - Energy and the Environment


3 hours
Study of the basic concepts of energy, including force, work, kinetic energy, potential energy, electromagnetism, nuclear fission and fusion, and the multiple problems of energy use as related to economic needs and environmental concerns. Field trips and laboratory studies will be emphasized. Special attention will be given to fossil fuels, nuclear and solar energy use as well as other alternate sources of energy. Political and social factors related to the complex energy question will be studied.
