DANP 123 - Contemporary Dance 1

Contemporary Dance 1 is an introductory course that introduces the student to fundamental contemporary dance movement with Modern dance technique as the basis, specifically branching from Limon and Horton techniques. Students will be exploring contemporary dance in an eclectic fashion that explores the teacher’s own style with a basis in Limon and Horton dance techniques, as well as incorporating basic floorwork. Students will also learn about historical events and figures in Modern dance, and how those events led to what we now call Contemporary dance. The class will consist of a thorough warm-up to learn basic technical concepts and terminology, and a series of progressing center exercises.
