Environmental Studies M.S.

The Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES) program is designed to provide professionals who work with and/or teach about the natural environment an interdisciplinary, experiential learning opportunity to enrich their understanding of that environment.

SCHEDULE

The program consists of four consecutive enrollment periods during a 21-month period. Each enrollment period consists of nine credit hours of a combination of coursework and independent study. The first enrollment period begins in the fall of Year 1 and consists of two, 3-credit modules and the first three hours of Practicum. The modules are each eight weeks in length and are offered consecutively. The second enrollment period begins in January and also includes two, 3-credit modules and final three hours of Practicum. The third enrollment period consists of three, 3-credit modules. The fourth and final enrollment period begins in January of the second year and consists of two, 3-credit modules and three credit hours of Directed Study.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the requirements stated under the Graduate Admissions Policy, the requirements for admission to MSES are as follows:

  1. Baccalaureate degree with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution.
  2. Academic and personal references: two of each.
  3. Completion of program interview process and written approval of admissions program director after review of the admissions requirements.
  4. MAT (score equal to or greater than 418) or GRE (score equal to or greater than 1,000) required of all applicants except for those who already have an advanced degree. Exceptions must be approved by the Program Director.
  5. Additional transcripts, if needed, to show courses needed to fulfill  prerequisites.
  6. Prerequisites:
    1. one year of biological sciences
    2. one year of physical sciences
    3. one course each in college-level mathematics (College Algebra or higher) and computer science.
  7. Selection preference will be given to professionals whose employment is in the field.
