Marketing B.B.A.

A major in Marketing is designed for the adult student who desires a career in the marketing profession…satisfying customers, developing strategic plans to attract, keep and “grow” customers, building relationships with customers, and developing a brand identity for an organization’s product and services. In short…marketing is an exciting field! Whether the specific marketing area is promotion, advertising, strategic market planning, customer research, sales management, global and multi-cultural marketing, or competitive analysis, this degree completion program is designed to be dynamic and cutting-edge. Additionally, the student will focus on marketing within the context of business management, which allows the graduate to move into both the marketing and management arenas. Students will interact with marketing professionals and be exposed to the latest marketing trends and practices. Specific topics include how to conduct market research, how to analyze buyers, how to formulate marketing strategies, how to sell, how to manage a sales force, how to advertise and promote, how to market in an international context, and how to manage an organization’s marketing operations.

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing is a 40 credit-hour degree completion program offering professional strategic marketing skills. Students will learn the skills for the application of principles in the field of marketing and marketing management.

SCHEDULE

The program consists of 73 weeks of instruction - one night a week for four hours.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Sixty-two (62) semester hours of transferable credit from accredited colleges or universities.
  2. Completion of Writing 1 and 2 with a “C” or better.
  3. Earned credit in a college math course.*

*Math required for graduation from MKT program is College Algebra or higher.

Writing 1 and Writing 2 Requirements


1.


Writing 1 and Writing 2 with “C” or better are required for acceptance into a degree completion program.

2.


Writing requirements must be completed in one of the following ways:

A.


By taking Writing 1 and Writing 2 at Friends University or another accredited institution, passing the course with “C” or better.

B.


By taking the CLEP, which includes both the CLEP essay and CLEP multiple choice sections, in the area of English composition. Students who pass the test with a score of 500 or better will receive six hours of ungraded credit for Writing 1 and Writing 2, pending the submission of a research paper that conforms to APA style and is approved by a fulltime faculty member of the English department. The paper should be written according to the guidelines currently established by the English program for Writing 2. This option can provide for students who need both Writing 1 and Writing 2 and who have never enrolled in either course before. The CLEP test is an option only for a student who has no previous enrollment in Writing 1 or 2.

Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the CAPS Exception Committee.

Internship Program


Degree Completion Program Students may earn up to six hours per semester for a total of two semesters or 12 hours total in an internship program that has been approved by their degree program director. (Please refer to the internship course description for complete details.)

Conference Courses


Upon recommendation of the instructor and the student’s advisor, the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Division Chair may grant permission for a student to take a course by conference.

Frequent conferences with the instructor, reports and examinations ensure that the student covers the same materials and maintains the same standards as those who take the course regularly. Written permission to take work by conference must be given and residence credit is granted. Special course arrangement forms must be completed and are available in the Registrar’s Office. Any lab fees attached to the course will be charged.

* Math:

  • Nature of Mathematics for Liberal Arts or higher is required for Criminal Justice and Organizational Management and Leadership degree programs.
  • College Algebra is required for Business Management, Marketing and Human Resource Management degree programs.
  • College Algebra (w/ “C” or better) is required for Computer Programming and Accounting degree programs.

** Required for Criminal Justice program
***Liberal Arts/Humanities requirement is 3 hours for Criminal Justice program
