Spanish B.A.

SPANISH CREDIT FOR PROFICIENCY

For previous foreign language coursework, students can receive ungraded retroactive credit hours as described below:

 
  1. Four ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students who enter a the beginning Spanish II level (SPAN 102) at Friends University receive 4 hours of ungraded credit for SPAN 101 (Beginning Spanish I) if they pass SPAN 102 with “B” or better.
  2. Eight ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students who enter at the intermediate level (SPAN 201) at Friends University receive 8 hours of ungraded credit for the beginning level (SPAN 101 & SPAN 102) if they pass SPAN 201 with “B” or better.
  3. Twelve ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students how enter a the intermediate 2 level (SPAN 202) at Friends University receive 12 hours of ungraded credit for beginning level (SPAN 101 &102) and intermediate 1 level (SPAN 201) if they pass SPAN 202) with a “B” or better.
  4. Sixteen ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students who enter at the advanced level (300/400 courses) receive 16 hours of ungraded credit for beginning (SPAN 101, 102) and intermediate (SPAN 201, 202) courses if they pass three advanced Spanish courses at Friends University of 3-credit hours each a the 300-400 level with a “B” or better.
  5. CLEP Spanish Examination: CLEP exam may be taken for graded credit hours in foreign language classes.  It may be taken only once. See CLEP Subject Examinations.
  6. Proficiency in Speaking: Students may receive three hours of ungraded credit for SPAN 305 Intermediate Spanish Conversation by passing an oral proficiency exam at the Intermediate High level.  Arrangements must be made through the Spanish Department. Only one attempt will be permitted. The standard fee for Credit by Examination will be charged. The Spanish Department will inform the Registrar’s Office by email of the successful results of the Proficiency Speaking evaluation so that the waiver of 3 credit hours for SPAN305 can be recorded.  Contact the Director of Foreign Languages for details.
  7. For beginning courses in other modern foreign languages (i.e., French, Italian, German), the same policy for retroactive credit applies for beginning II.

Sister Cities Exchange Program

Friends University became a sister university of La Salle University of Cancun, Mexico, Friday, March 26, 1993.  In the signed agreement, both institutions promised to promote and establish academic and scientific exchanges for students and faculty.  Since then, the institutions have enjoyed successful academic exchanges of students from both campuses.
