Vocal Music Education B.M. (Grades PreK-12)

The Music Education program at Friends University prepares students to teach music in grades Pre-K-12, general music, vocal or instrumental. The degree has been designed by music educators to develop teachers with the latest skills and techniques of teaching music.

Piano Proficiency: Piano Proficiency must be passed before student teaching.

Admissions in the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required for all EDUC 300/400 level methods courses, 300/400 ELED methods courses, and 300/400 level MUSC methods courses.  Written notification of the TEP application results will be distributed from the Chair of the Division of Education to all applicants and their academic advisor.

Employment

Beyond teaching in urban, suburban, private/parochial or rural schools, some students go on to graduate school, music ministry or music therapy.

Piano Proficiency courses:


Students must take piano until they have passed the Piano Proficiency Exam. A maximum of 4 credit hours may be applied to the major.

Performance courses:


Choose seven credit hours from the following:


Vocal Music Requirements: 7.5 credit hours


Total Major Requirements: 99-99.5 credit hours


Total Degree Requirements: 138-142 credit hours
