The coaching minor is designed to introduce students to the many principles that are applicable across all sports. It is a supplement to any major field of study and is encouraged for students seeking teacher licensure or pursuing other majors who desire a coaching position or career in an educational setting. Students completing the coaching minor will be certified in First Aid, Pediatric and Adult CPR, and AED through the American Red Cross, and sit for the National Council on Strength and Fitness Certified Personal Trainer (NCSF-CPT) and National Council on Strength and Fitness Strength Coach (NCSF-SC) Exam.

Learning Goals:

  • Know the principles and issues related to planning organizing, staffing, and directing functions of a team, commonly considered responsibilities of a coach; and
  • Implement the physiological principles and applications for physical training in sport, including the ability to develop training programs for individual athletes and teams
