The Music Education program at Friends University prepares students to teach music in grades PreK-12. Program completers are eligible for an Initial PreK-12 Music License issued by the Kansas State Department of Education. The degree has been designed by music educators to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to foster student success in the general, instrumental, and vocal music classrooms.
All Education students must meet the following Division of Education academic standards:
- Admission to the Teacher Education Program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall with no less than 2.75 Content GPA and Professional Education GPA and ACT or 18 or higher;
-or-
- GPA 2.75 (Cumulative, Content, and Professional Education) with an ACT of 24 or higher
Exceptions may petition the Division Chair who will report to the PEB any exceptions or conditions.
Admissions in the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required for all EDUC 300/400 level methods courses, 300/400 ELED methods courses, and 300/400 level MUSC methods courses. Written notification of the TEP application results will be distributed from the Chair of the Division of Education to all applicants and their academic advisor.
Piano Proficiency: Piano Proficiency must be passed before student teaching.
