Candidates for a degree in International Business must complete the Common Professional Core (CPC) and General Education/Bachelor of Science requirements specified by the Division of Business and Information Technology. In addition, candidates for a degree in International Business must meet all major requirements.
A grade of “C” or better must be earned in each Division required course applied to the major or minor.
EMPLOYMENT
The International Business major is designed to help students prepare for a career in an organization that does business both domestically and in one or more countries abroad. Graduates in the major will be exposed to the fundamental principles of business within the richer context of the global, cross-cultural perspective. Examples of potential employers include multi-national companies, non-governmental organizations, and other not-for-profits.

Common Business/Technology Professional Core Requirements
Common Core Requirements: 39 credit hours
Additional Major Requirements: 24 credit hours
Choose any five of the following courses: 15 credit hours
Choose one of the following: 3 credit hours
Choose one of the following: 3 credit hours
Any country or region-specific HIST course meeting the CBASE General Education World Culture requirement. International Study Experience Requirement: 3 credit hours
This requirement can be fulfilled by any of the following ways:
- Participating in any one of Friends University’s approved semester or part-year study abroad programs (courses in these experiences may also fulfill requirements listed above, and Foreign Language requirement. Check with the Division Chair and the Office of the University Registrar regarding course transferability).
- Participating in a short-term study program at Friends University (Courses in these experiences may also fulfill degree requirements. Check with the Division Chair and Office of the University Registrar before enrolling in a travel course).
- Participating in a summer International Business Internship (IBI) program. (Courses in these experiences may also fulfill degree requirements. Check with the Division Chair and Office of the University Registrar for additional information and approvals).
- Completing an international internship experience of at least 120 work hours.
- Other prior-approved international educational experiences or special arrangements at other institutions that are approved by Friends University. Check with the Division Chair and Office of the University Registrar for approval process.
Foreign Language Requirement: 14 credit hours
To complete the International Business degree, a student must either demonstrate or complete 2nd year proficiency in a second language. Students who demonstrate 2nd year proficiency and do not need further language courses may enroll in any other courses in the Business and Technology Division or with prior approval from their advisor enroll in other international-related courses from the Friends University catalog to achieve the 14 hour minimum foreign language course requirement. Total Major Requirements: 77 credit hours
