The Political Science major focuses on teaching students not just the basic history and operations of our system of government and the issues and ideas which attend it, but also on training them in the speaking, reading, writing, debating and research skills upon which an active involvement in our democracy and the duties of citizenship in general depend. As all of us are political beings and citizens of one polity or another, these are skills which any of us may have a need to rely upon, no matter what our beliefs or occupation.
EMPLOYMENT
The Political Science major prepares students for study at the graduate level in the related areas of political science, law, public policy, public administration, business, economics, organizational management and behavior, or any number of other fields in the liberal arts. It also prepares students for possible careers in politics, community organizing, legislative research, campaign management, fund raising, corporate work, social assistance and advocacy, government service, and numerous other occupations.
