SPCH 275 - Voice and Speech for Performance

Credit Hours: 3

Required of Theatre and Music Theatre majors; optional for Theatre and Music Theatre minors. A course designed to assist students to improve voice production and speech articulation skills. Emphasis is given to students who anticipate careers requiring the use of voice and speech in professional applications. More specifically, it is intended to help students to acquire:

Understand the mechanics and dynamics of the human voice;
Develop freedom and flexibility in the use of the voice
Develop linguistic choices that are imaginative, memorable and compelling
Understand and apply principles of posture, breathing, relaxation, energizing,
Develop the sensibility that connects breath to sound, feeling to thought, human need to communicative impulse, and words to social and artistic skill.

Meets General Education Goal 3: Communication Skills.
