EDUC 5226 - Literacy Intervention Specialist: Intro


Credit Hours: 3

This two-year graduate training program begins with the two-week introductory course and is recognized by the Academic Language Therapy Association to certify Academic Language Therapists. It will introduce the participant to the theory, instructional practices and development of secondary language, structure, history, curriculum and terminology of the Alphabetic Phonics language curriculum. This course is a balanced approach for teaching literacy skills to children who need a structural, sequential, systematic, multisensory approach, allowing children to be successful readers, spellers and writers. The content includes the integration of phonological awareness, letter recognition, decoding, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, fluency practice, grammar, and written composition skills.
