ELED 431 - Reading Language Arts Methods


4 credit hours
Prerequisites: ELED 260 - may be concurrent enrollment; concurrent enrollment in ELED 441; Admission to teacher education.
A course designed to prepare elementary teacher education candidates to help children in grades K-6 develop their English language and reading and writing skills. Emphasis is placed upon methods of teaching in the following areas of communication: oral language, listening, writing (composition and creative writing), mechanics of writing, handwriting, spelling, reading and children’s literature. Other important areas to be studied include language development, schema theory, metacognitive theory, the relationship between reading and the language arts, teacher modeling, assessment, lesson planning, and classroom management and organization. Candidates will also learn how education professionals progress from theory and research into practice in the elementary classroom.  This course partners with the Reading practicum as the application opporunity for methods.Course Delivery Methods: TRA
