Prospective secondary teachers should secure a “teaching major” in the subject field of concentration. These “teaching majors” are not necessarily the same as usual major field concentrations. Therefore, it is imperative for the student to follow the particular patterns outlined on Program Outline Sheets available from the Registrar’s Office or the Chair of the Division of Education. Please see the Education Department for complete program outlines.
All Education students must meet the following Division of Education academic standard:
- Admission to the Teacher Education Program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall with no less than 2.75 Content GPA and Professional Education GPA and ACT or 18 or higher;
or
- GPA 2.75 (Cumulative, Content, and Professional Education) with ACT of 24 or higher
Exceptions may petition the Division Chair who will report to the PEB any exceptions or conditions.
Admissions in the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required for all EDUC 300/400 level methods courses, 300/400 ELED methods courses, and 300/400 level MUSC methods courses. Written notification of the TEP application results will be distributed from the Chair of the Division of Education to all applicants and their academic advisor.
