Candidates for a degree in International Business must complete the Common Professional Core (CPC) and General Education/Bachelor of Science requirements specified by the Division of Business and Information Technology. In addition, candidates for a degree in International Business must meet all major requirements.
A grade of “C” or better must be earned in each Division required course applied to the major or minor.
Employment
The International Business major is designed to help students prepare for a career in an organization that does business both domestically and in one or more countries abroad. Graduates in the major will be exposed to the fundamental principles of business within the richer context of the global, cross-cultural perspective. Examples of potential employers include multi-national companies, non-governmental organizations, and other not-for-profits.

General Education Requirements for Business and Information Technology Majors
Common Business/Technology Professional Core Requirements: 36 credit hours
Major Requirements: 21 credit hours

Any non-US, country or region-specific History or Culture course (3 credit hours) from the Social Sciences and History Outcome (Goal 4) or the Culture and Diversity Outcome (Goal 5) of the General Education Requirements.
Additional Math Requirements: 3 credit hours
Total Major Requirements: 60 credit hours
International Experience Requirement
An International Experience met by one of the following:
- A Study Abroad course (either semester-long or May-term/short-term)
- Internship course with an International Focus and designated section code (may be based in the US or abroad)
- International Students only. Complete the following courses:
Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement: 0-20 credit hours
To complete the International Business degree, a student must demonstrate 2nd year proficiency in two languages - one of which must be English. Students coming to Friends University from a U.S. high school are considered to be English speaking. Students coming to Friends University from a country other than the U.S. are considered to be English speaking if their high school was conducted in English (i.e. an International High School accredited in the United States). If their high school was conducted in a different language, they are considered to be a speaker of that language.
English Speaking Students
For English speaking students, the language proficiency will be met by completing coursework to demonstrate 2nd year proficiency in a language other than English. A Basic Certificate, Intermediate Certificate, or minor in a foreign language will also meet this requirement. Currently, Friends University offers both certificates and minor in Spanish. Other languages may be obtained in consultation with the Division of Christian and Liberal Studies.
Option 1: Second Year Proficiency in a Foreign Language: 16 credit hours
Completion of 16 credit hours in a foreign language at Friends University (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better.

- Beginning II (FREN, GERM, ITAL, or SPAN 102)
- Intermediate I (FREN, GERM, ITAL, or SPAN 201)
- Intermediate II (FREN, GERM, ITAL, or SPAN 202)
Option 2: Basic Certificate in Spanish: 14 credit hours
Student has passed 4-6 semesters of high school Spanish or has taken beginning Spanish (SPAN 101 & SPAN 102) at Friends University (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better.
Option 3: Intermediate Certificate in Spanish: 13 credit hours
Student has passed 8-10 semesters of high school Spanish or has taken beginning Spanish (SPAN 101 & SPAN 102) and one semester of Intermediate Spanish (SPAN 201) at Friends University (or the equivalent) with a grade of C or better. In this option, the student may choose more advanced coursework in writing (SPAN 310) or in developing advanced conversational skills (SPAN 480).
Option 4: Minor in Spanish for International Business: 20 credit hours
Non-English Speaking Students
For students determined to be Non-English speaking, the language proficiency will be met by completing the following courses from the Friends University General Education curriculum:
