Recognizing that the Criminal Justice system is diverse in nature, the Criminal Justice program (CJP) gives the student a solid educational foundation across a broad spectrum of criminal justice topics and issues. Specific concentration is given to management and organizational skills, as well as to social concerns intrinsic to the area of law enforcement and correctional systems.

Main areas of instruction are:

• basic elements of criminal law;
• budgeting, planning and management in criminal justice agencies;
• community and intergroup relations;
• communication and leadership skills; and
• methods of criminal investigation.

The coursework and research project are required of all students in the program. The research project is an applied action project, which is directly applied to an organization, usually the student’s work site.

SCHEDULE

The program consists of 62 weeks of instruction. This design is facilitative and will be taught in four-hour blocks per week. The field experience model and facilitative mode of delivery requires extensive outside work and application.
