SPANISH CREDIT FOR PROFICIENCY

For previous foreign language coursework, students can receive ungraded retroactive credit hours as described below:

  1. Eight ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students who pass six graded credit hours of Spanish at the intermediate level (SPAN 201, 202) with “B” or better will receive eight hours of ungraded credit for the beginning level (SPAN 101, 102).
  2. Fourteen ungraded retroactive credit hours: Students who enter at the advanced level (300/400 courses) will be awarded a total of 14 hours of ungraded credit for beginning (SPAN 101, 102) and intermediate (SPAN 201, 202) courses after completion of three, three credit hour advanced courses (SPAN 300, 400) with “B” or better.
  3. CLEP Spanish Examination: CLEP exam must be completed early in the first semester for advanced coursework and may only be taken once. See CLEP Subject Examinations.
  4. Proficiency in Speaking: Students may receive three hours of ungraded credit for SPAN 305 Intermediate Spanish Conversation by passing an oral proficiency exam. Only one attempt will be permitted. The standard fee for Credit by Examination will be charged. Contact the Director of Foreign Languages for details.
  5. Proficiency in Writing: Students may receive three hours of ungraded credit for SPAN 310 Spanish Composition by passing the final exam for the course. Only one attempt will be permitted. The standard fee for Credit by Examination will be charged. Contact the Director of Foreign Languages for details.

Sister Cities Exchange Program

Friends University became a sister university of La Salle University of Cancun, Mexico, Friday, March 26, 1993.  In the signed agreement, both institutions promised to promote and establish academic and scientific exchanges for students and faculty.  Since then, the institutions have enjoyed successful academic exchanges of students from both campuses.  Students may receive 6 credit hours from Friends University on completion of the requirements of two courses offered on the La Salle University campus.  Specifically, they are HIST 429 Mayan History (3 credit hours) and SPAN 480 Advanced Spanish Conversation (3 credit hours).  The courses are taught by La Salle University faculty, and the credit is granted by Friends University.
