The Master of Business Law program curriculum is designed to prepare students to identify and address legal and ethical issues in the business environment. MBL students acquire legal knowledge and develop analytical skills typically available only to students in a three year juris doctor program. The MBL program also develops skills in decision making, dispute resolution and ethics. MBL students closely examine legal and ethical risks inherent in a business environment and a significant federal regulatory scheme through their final research project.
The MBL program provides students an exceptional opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and skills for application in business settings. However, the MBL program is not a juris doctor program and does not provide students or graduates with any of the credentials required to take a bar examination or practice law.
The MBL program is designed to benefit a diverse group of individuals, including:
- Individuals who work with the law and want to expand their knowledge of the law.
- Individuals who work with lawyers and want to work more effectively within the legal area.
- Individuals who want to expand their career objectives in a direction which involves working more with the law.
- Individuals who want to broaden their base of knowledge for personal or business reasons by learning about the law.
SCHEDULE
Most courses are 3 credit hours and are offered in eight-week time frames, one night a week.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the requirements stated under the Graduate Admissions Policy, the requirements for admission to the MBL program are as follows:
- Two letters of recommendation: one of which must be from a business or professional supervisor.
- Completion of program interview process and written approval of admission by the program director after review of the admission requirements.

Business, Technology, and Leadership Division Foundations Courses
Students entering a degree program in the Graduate School BTL Division with a bachelor’s degree in business or accounting from an ACBSP, AACSB, or IACBE candidate or accredited institution will be enrolled in the courses associated with the graduate degree they seek. No BTL Foundations courses are required.
Students entering a degree program in the Graduate School BTL Division with a bachelor’s degree in business or accounting from an institution without secondary business accreditation or candidacy who do not have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the field of study they enter at Friends will be required to take courses in BTL Foundations in order to proceed with studies in their chosen graduate business program.
Students entering a degree program in the Graduate School BTL Division without a bachelor’s degree in business who do not have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field of study they enter at Friends will be required to take courses in BTL Foundations in order to proceed with studies in their chosen graduate business program.
| Clarification on when students required to take BSAD 500 and/or BSAD 501 Foundation courses must have completed the courses. |
| All BTL division students required to take the foundation courses must do so within the first 12 hours of their program requirements. |
